Great picture, Caleb. I can see the music and desperation in this guy’s image. Also, I love that he appears to be jacking power from the closed building.
@Derek. It is a tough lighting situation. I think it’s a mixture of fluorescent and sodium vapor. I know nothing about setting white balance, so if a photo turns out too hideously green or blue I usually just convert to black and white. It’s a lazy man’s solution but I’m not a real technical photographer.
@Gary. I’m glad you can see the desperation. If you look closely at the fingerboard of the guitar you can see where his fingers have worn through the varnish. You’re pretty observant. He was jacking power from the building, and when they finally put locks on the outlets he started powering his amp from a car battery.
If you shoot in RAW you can adjust the white balance after the fact.
I love the backstory that Gary picked up on … You could always drop some of those insights/details into your photo captions. Or just let Gary note them in the comments.
Cool shot!
Thanks Derek! I shot photos of him off and on for three years and I feel like this one tells his story best.
For sure. A tough lighting situation but you pulled it off brilliantly. Keep ’em coming!
